Sourav De
, Guest Lecturer, Department of Bengali, Government College, Panisagar, North Tripura, India.
In this small state of Tripura, which is marked as the symbol of the most beautiful beauty of North East India, built on the branches of crooked hills, a shining foundation of short stories has been developed along with the practice of poetry or novels. A recurring theme across its larger backdrop is the refugee problem in its most dire form as a result of the trauma that Partition inflicted on the core of humanity. Various contexts seem to have taken place effortlessly in the arena of creative prose literature. Storyteller Sujoy Roy has emerged as one of the faces of those who are cultivating a creative literature in the pastures of Bengali prose literature in Tripura. In every chapter of his writings the problem of Tripura’s long-burning extremism, the problem of the burning chaos of partition, is visible. As the interweaving of the stories are the reports of endless love of personal life, various social and political issues have become the main motif of the story. Sujoy Roy’s published stories are ‘Ae Jiban Ae Dah’ (1974), ‘Sharir Zameen’ (1997), ‘Badhyabhumi’ (2002), ‘Anyamukh’ (2013) etc. The stories compiled in these books are a unique reflection of the real thoughts of the society. In the context of the analytical article, Sujoy Roy’s ‘Badhyabhumi’ story book ‘Uttaradhikar’, ‘Fatal’, ‘Sekharer Dike’, ‘Ujaner Nabik’, ‘Nabaminishi’ etc., has been thrown various views of the author Sujoy Roy’s social, political and above all psychological tension. I have endeavored to show how reasonable the accuracy of the stories is in the actual context.
