One of the main female characters in this novel is named Dola. She is an ordinary housewife. Her husband's name is Jagannath. Her daughter's name is Joyee. Her husband is blind and unemployed, so she has to depend on her brother-in-law, Jaydev, to run their family. Because of this, Jaydev even raises his hand against her for minor matters. Her mother-in-law, Ashalata, also calls her a coward, swears. Jagannath, despite knowing everything, does not protest. Because if he protests, he will have to sit on the road with his wife and daughter. When Dola was raped by her brother-in-law one day, her husband remained silent. Therefore, she is proud of her husband and leaves home to maintain her self-respect. With Ratan's help, she gets a job at a nursing home. In the meantime, she becomes pregnant.When Jagannath was told everything, he refused to take responsibility for the child and slandered him. Then Dola gives birth to a child and raises that child alone. She also gets a promotion at work and her salary doubles. Besides, she also takes care of her grandparents' family. She is an O.T sister at a nursing home. How she turned her life around from an ordinary housewife to one that endured all the humiliation and maintained her self-respect. This matter has been discussed in this paper. | |
