Poet Paresh Mandal emerged in the early sixties of the last century. His poetry is very clearly distinguished compared to the previous poets. He was one of the foremost among those who started the Shruti literary movement in 1965. This literary movement was in opposition with the main-stream poetry. This Movement challenged and significantly changed the style used in the main stream poetry from various aspects including Content, Diction, and most importantly the Form. They predominantly tried to create a visual effect of poems by altering or arranging the words and lines in an unconventional way, or using different fonts, symbols, signs, or special application of punctuation marks etc visual persuasive tools. As Paresh Mandal was deeply involved with this Shruti literary movement, the influence of this movement is very evident in his overall poetry. Hence the present article aims to study the poetry of Paresh Mandal from thematic and stylistic aspects with a focus on the influences of Shruti literary movement on his poetry. | |
