Medinipur was the center, source and guide of the anti-British struggle in Bengal and India. Medinipur, the motherland of revolution, witnessed the initiation of many strands of freedom movement. In 1921-22 AD, the beginning of the mass struggle against the Union Board under the leadership of the famous public leader Birendranath Sasmal, the 'uncrowned' king, was one of those trends. In Bengal, the anti-union board movement started in Medinipur. Panskura Thana Congress Committee on the call of Birendranath Sasmal joined the anti-Union Board movement in Medinipur and this movement spread throughout Panskura Thana. It should be mentioned that the British government was forced to retreat under the pressure of the anti-union board movement in Medinipur led by Birendranath Sasmal and removed the remaining 226 union boards from the entire Medinipur district in December 1921 except the Gopalnagar union board of Panskura. Therefore it is necessary to see whether the anti-union board movement had a mixed effect in Panskura police station
