Folk arts and crafts are the heart of the rich cultural heritage of India. The folk art is very closely associated with the way of life of the common people. The folk art of Bengal is full of aesthetic charm and traditional values. The folk paintings are one of the major genres of folk art which includes wall painting, Chalachitra, Dashabtaar Taas, Patchitra, Sara Painting, Alpana, etc. With the impact of globalization and rapid modernization we can see change in almost every aspect of human life. Looking into the present scenario of folk paintings of Bengal we can witness that a drastic transformation is taking place in the area of folk painting. The present research paper is an attempt to explore and highlight the present situation of folk art in West Bengal. It also explores reasons behind this transformation and also to find out in which areas of folk painting these changes are occurring. | |
