The Evolution of Temples as the Basis of Bengal’s Economy and Socio-Cultural Values Sajal Ojha, M.A. (History), M.Ed (Pursuing), WBUTTEPA, West Bengal, India | |
The paper discusses the rise of the Bengali race and the evolution of religion, temples and
idol worship in the Bengal, showing how the present day Bengali race was created through
the socio-cultural amalgamation of non-Aryan and mixed Aryan castes. The nature of
formation of Bengali thought is realistically shown by discussing how the socio-economiccultural evolution from religion to temple establishment and thence is presented in
historical context. Not only that, it shows how Bengalis used to sacrifice their lives for
religion. Here various temples of West Bengal are classified and the economic structure
and employment of each category is shown. Several theoretical and data-based discussions
of how temple culture strengthened Bengal's economy are presented here, which help the
reader will understand how the socio-economic sphere is interrelated with religion and
temple culture. In this research paper an attempt has been made to carry out the work in
deductive method by collecting primary and secondary data. The essay discusses the topic
in a historical context so that the reader can make a connection between the past and the
