Pabitra Das, Research Scholar, Department of Sanskrit, Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, Purulia, West Bengal, India
Acharya Ramkishor’s Mishras Vidyottamakalidasiya epic can be said in the context of how useful it is as a modern epic. Compared with the definition of the epic of eastern poetics, it can be seen that the composition, heroism, rasnirupan, ryming, besides the content of the epic is not imagined by the poet. The subject of an epic poem will be based on a historical event or a biography of a great person. All the above features are available here. There are three types of Mangalacharan in epics–Benedictory, Salutation and object directive. In this Vidyottamakalidasiya epic, salutation is performed. In addition of all there descriptions, Western perspective. There the poet has maintained the modern epic even if we look at the content of the epic from the point of view of character portrayal etc. what is said here above all in the context of the epic poem is the narrative of the marriage story of the great man Kalidas and his wife Vidyottama.
