Exploring the Nature of Bengali Poetry in the Barak Valley: Selected Readings
Dr. Soumitra Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Srikishan Sarda College, Hailakandi, Assam, India
Literary works are time dependent, the poet is not outside of this time and society, so their creation takes shape by thinking about this time and society. The works of poets and writers of Barak are no exception. People's love in the society - love, exploitation, struggle, natural environment, etc. has also provided the material for Barak's poets to write. Sometimes the joy of meeting, the joy of achievement and sometimes loneliness is seen in their poems. Love of nature, love of humanity and sometimes love of the country are their poems
They wrote their poems on the love of humanity and sometimes on the love of the country. Sometimes they sang the joy of life and sometimes they wrote poems in the spirit of death. Religious awareness, pain of being a refugee, talk of Barak river, affection for native land, pain of emigration, responsibility towards society, poems about seasons, historical thoughts, folk culture, geographical awareness etc. are the main focus of Bengali poetry of Barak
Many talents are yet to be discovered by us. Many creations face destruction before they manifest. Talents do not get exposed because of lack of proper system and infrastructure. Our Barak Valley has such a fluent, strong poets and their works, we do not practice their thoughts, nor do we come forward to do it. Because, in a word, as Kabiguru said, 'what we want that we want by mistake what we get that we don't want'.
