The Need for Value and Moral Education for Children in the Context of Contemporary Society and State: A Review
Arup Kumar Haldar, Guest Lecturer, Department of Political Science, Dakshin Dinajpur University, Balurghat, Dakshin Dinajpur, West Bengal, India
Morality and values are the basic foundation of an ideal orderly developed society and state. If moral education and values are not properly inculcated in the child at the early stage of the society, then the social foundation will be weakened and the social balance will be destroyed thereby leading to social degradation. If we take a look at the current social system, we will see that there is a constant competition among the parents to keep up with the progress of modern civilization. In this competition, people are being driven by greed, lust, lust and desire to put their children first is becoming increasingly unethical. As a result of this, an atmosphere of unrest is being observed in every field of family, society and state. That is, social stability is being hampered. Following some long-standing norms and practices have been liberating our society from this turbulent environment. By being respectful and aware of all these customs and traditions, it is possible to build a harmonious ideal society.
For this it is necessary to form good character of the child through moral education and development of humanity at the initial stage of social formation. At this stage the child acquires special qualities like manners, affection, love, humility, philanthropy from within his family. And at the next stage we need to teach human rights, duties and principles as well as moral values in the curriculum from primary school to university. For example, ideas of great men should be taught, moral values, stories, poems etc. should be included in the curriculum, and various patriotic subjects should be taught to them. As a result, children can easily judge what is right and wrong, right and wrong, good and bad in every aspect of social development; which will make the child moral and idealistic. An ideal orderly developed society and state will be formed by the combination of this moral and ideal child.
