The Value of Ethics in Everyday Life: In the Teachings of Gautama Buddha
Sourav Majumdar, Ph.D. Research Scholar, Department of Philosophy, University of Burdwan, and State Government Approved College Teacher, Katwa College, Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, India.
Buddha’s moral teachings and application of his values can be seen in the practical life of people. According to Buddha, the world and life are miserable. As human life is driven by desire, there is more suffering than happiness. Determining the difference between good and bad, right and wrong was not the only goal in Buddhadeva’s morality. The aim here was deeper- how to give the suffering man a unique and ultimate release or nirvana from suffering. For this purpose, he tried to make people aware of suffering, its origin, its removal and the way to remove it. His view on these four points is the fundamental theory of morality.
Keywords: Four Noble Truths, Suffering, Nirvana, Morality, Ahimsa.
