Partition, Communal Harmony, and the Refugee Problem: Bengal Shishir Kumar Haldar, Department of History, University of Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal, India
The partition of India was certainly the main cause of disunity as well as the refugee issue. Although we have come across various national partitions before and afterwards, yet the Partition of India introduces a diverse historical context. Turning the two communities against each other and lighting up the fiery grudge among the society and also giving it an institutional image, by converting a united land into two different nations, was a part of this partition It was a brutal attack on mutual companionship. Having arrived on the arks of British as the pioneer of anarchy, fulfilling their selfish desires behind the closed doors of sectarianism, tearing apart the soul of intact Indian, an era of temporary joy was introduced. The two nations India and Pakistan were brought in view in 1947. Even the constructors of this whole picture might not be able to realise the immense destruction it caused to the public lives and properties, or else maybe the lives, of the two shores would not have to get acquainted with so many riots, plunder, and rape, death and killing cases. Those who were once one soul in two bodies, the circumstances turned them into sworn enemies overnight. Even the Indian Army, Navy, Indian civil service, Rail and central Treasury and most importantly the unity among people were also divided. As a result, even if we are free from the British, the scars are still vivid. We still came across internal communal unrest and border issues. The flow of events is mentioned in this journal.
