The ancient royal palace located in the Yogijan area of Hojai district, Assam, is the Yogijan Rajbari. The palace is situated on the banks of the Kapili River. Associated with this palace are many elements of the ancient society and culture of this region. Here, broken idols made of black stone, several Shiva lingas, and statues of gods and goddesses have been discovered. A notable feature is the presence of a special stone known as ‘Raktashila’ (Bloodstone), which turns red upon contact with water. The Kalika Purana contains references to this region. There is a popular belief that this palace is connected to the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, although direct evidence for such assumptions is currently insufficient. Nevertheless, the site can be considered an important archaeological and tourist center. In this paper, we attempt to highlight this aspect.
