A Discussion on Yogic Tendencies: Analysis of Mind, Mental Modifications and Yogic Components Based on the Yogashastra Pushpita Chakraborty, Research Scholar, Department of Sanskrit, Assam University, Silchar, Assam, India
Yoga is the central theory of creation. Through multiple branches and organs, continuous yoga theory has been embodied from ancient to modern times.Yoga is a certain system of discipline which is followed continuously from the beginning to the end through regulations and it enables man to attain his desired goal. Patanjali defines the term Yoga as "Yogascittavritti nirodah" i.e. yoga is the "Abstention of the fluctuations of the mind. Therefore, a proper synthesis and analysis of cittas and cittavrittis is necessary to fully annex yoga. Definitions and terminology are very important to accept any theory properly. Therefore, through the grammatical explanation of the word yoga, it is possible to strengthen human knowledge about yoga. Chitta is the combined creation of amassed purush and conscious nature. There are three qualities of satva, rajas and tamas in the mind. Chitta consists of five states, namely-Kshipta, Vikkshipta, Mudha, Ekagrah and Niriddha. The mind is observed to have five vrittis, namely Pramana, Viparyaya,Vikalpa, Nidra and Smriti. Therefore a complete analysis of yoga is possible only through proper analysis of Chitta and Chittavrttis.
