Semantic Nuance in the Poetry of Nirendranath Chakraborty
Achintya Kumar Das, Research Scholar, Dept. of Bengali, Banaras Hindu University, Uttar Pradesh, India
ABSTRACT
One of the fundamental components of language is the word. A sentence is formed through the combination of multiple words, and it is through these sentences that we express our thoughts and emotions. It is
essential that the words used to construct a sentence carry specific and clear meanings. If a sentence is formed using meaningless words, the intended thought or emotion remains unclear. Therefore, words and
their meanings play a crucial role in sentence construction. The field of semantics—the study of word meanings—has been the subject of much discussion and critique in both Eastern and Western traditions.
While debates on this topic date back to ancient times, in the modern era these discussions have grown even more extensive. In this article, we attempt to explore and analyze various semantictheories of both Eastern
and Western critics, using the poetry of Nirendranath Chakraborty as our reference point.
