The Poetry of Kabita Singh: An Inner Voice of Womanhood
Dr. Nandita Das, Assistant Professor, Jagannath Singh College, Udharbond, Cachar, Assam, India.
Born on 16th October,1931 in Kolkata and recognised as the first feminist of Bengali literature Kabita Singha's works speak volumes ventilating the fiery spirit within her concerning the everyday real-life ordeals women have to undergo frequently in a male-dominated society.Through her work she has tried to portray the real image of an Indian woman who needs to rediscover her voice dodging the stereotype societal forces which take her into clutches to inflict oppression and suppression on her ; to victimize and marginalize her. As Kabita Singha,s accountability lies with the humanity at large she makes her poetry speak of the marginalised status of the modern women who keep challenging the patriarchal code of conduct. Therefore, in tune with her poetic outpouring this paper seeks to examine how Kabita Singha, with the language of women presents the modern women unfold their psyche in the process of raising their voice against unjust male domination.
