Ramkumar Nandi Majumdar – A North-Eastern Poet Following Madhusudan Manchitra Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai, Assam, India
Ramkumar Nandi Majumdar (1831-1904) was one of the modern poets of North-East India and the Barak-Surma Valley, who followed Madhusudan. He was born in Bejura in Sreehatta district. He was multi-talented. He was a poet, a saint, a mother lover; on the other hand, he was modest and averse to publicity. Poverty was a constant companion of his childhood. As a result, it was not possible for him to get higher education institutionally. However, with his own tireless efforts, sitting on the edge of Bengal he devotedly studied literature. But how many of us know that identity? Apart from Sreehatta, Tripura, Mymensingh and Dhaka, the people of the Bhagirathi coastal region seem to know very little. Consequently, the purpose of this essay is to introduce Ramkumar Nandi Majumdar and his works to those who still have them today.
