Narendranath Bhattacharya popularly known as M. N. Roy was a multifaceted figure whose
life spanned the tumultuous period of India's struggle for independence and the global
socio-political upheavals of the early 20th century. His life and intellectual contributions
are characterized by multifaceted engagement with political activism, anti-colonial
struggles, and socialist ideology. His trajectory took a turn as he delved into Marxist
ideology and communism during his time in the Soviet Union. This marked the beginning of
Roy's transition from a nationalist revolutionary to an internationalist Marxist. As a
political theorist, Roy made significant contributions to Marxist thought, introducing his
own ideas that later became known as "Radical Humanism." Roy’s international influence
extended beyond India, as he became involved in global political affairs. However,
disillusioned with the limitations of armed struggles, he shifted his focus to political and
social theory. In this background, this paper will attempt to explore the relationship between
nationalism and humanism by introducing his expertise and vision. And tried to search what
was the passion of his life that’s why his thoughts and ideas dynamically changed which
marks him as a revolutionary thinker in Indian political thought. To prepare this paper used
descriptive methods and secondary sources through quantitative and qualitative data. | |
