Life Narratives of the Subaltern: The Short Stories of Kalipada Chakraborty

The lower class consciousness is observed in the stories of the storyteller Kalipada Chakraborty. Tripura's storyteller has chosen Tripura as his backdrop. Committed to society, believing in hardworking people, the storyteller has been a lifelong fighter. He did not weep luxuriantly for the lower class people, but because he had a sincere sympathy for the proletariat, he easily shared in their joys and sorrows. He remained responsible towards the oppressed, deprived people. The storyteller has highlighted in his story the life struggle of those who have to become destitute due to the loss of economic balance.
Storyteller, Kalipada Chakraborty constructs his story using the perspective of eternal sympathy for real Dalit people. People from this lower strata of society are constantly struggling to maintain their existence. They have to face multifaceted experiences in the struggle for survival. They have to be endangered in various ways to protect their foothold.
Storyteller, Kalipada Chakraborty started writing at the very beginning of the seventies. His first book of stories 'Bikeler Maidan' was published in 1983 with eight stories from the stories he wrote over two decades. Later, his selected stories were published in 1998 with some additions and deletions. His stories include 'Tir', 'Gangadharer Upakhyan', 'Shiyal', 'Samayer Haat', 'Ashraydatri', 'Prabandha', 'Khun', 'Trishankar', 'Swargagaman', 'Dinalipi', 'Nishana', 'Swad'.
Although Kalipada Chakraborty's writings are limited in number, protest, resistance, consciousness and devotion are present in his stories. Kalipada Chakraborty is the author of biographies of lower class people. In his story, we see the nature of the multifaceted struggle for survival. He wrote stories about the life struggles of the lower class people.
