This paper explores the contours of Anangamohini Devi’s poetry and traces the growth of her poetic art since the publication of Kanika – her first collection of poetry – which came out in 1899. She has an important place in Northeast India’s Bengali literature, particularly in the genre of poetry, in the early twentieth century. However, despite her early contribution into the field of poetry, Anangamohini Devi’s works are not adequately explored and – except a few compilations – the conventional history of Bengali literature has more or less remained silent about her writings. It is within this context that the paper reflects on her hitherto unexplored poetic techniques of her works. | |
