The Royal Ascetic Shivaji in Rabindranath’s Thought
Rajib Chandra Pal, Guest Lecturer, Department of Bengali, Ramthakur College, Agartala, Tripura, India
Poet Rabindranath Tagore is a strange wonder of the world. He saw the Maratha ruler Shivaji in a completely new light in his nationalist outlook. Rabindranath was moved and impressed by Shivaji's philosophy. He wrote Shivaji festival poems in the wake of Ganesh Deuskar's Shivaji festival. In Rabindranath's eyes, Shivaji is king and sage at the same time. Shivaji has secured a permanent place in Rabindra nath Tagore mind and thought as a symbol of the representative of freedom-seeking people in subjugated India. Rabindranath has portrayed Shivaji as a national hero and royal ascetic in his various works. Shivaji's thoughts, imagination, ideals seem to have inspired Rabindranath. This discussion has attempted to highlight that.
