Recently, some States have been providing ‘‘allowances (Bhata)’’ to women from poor and marginalized families. This ‘‘allowances’’ has become a tool for the ruling party to regain political power. The ruling party leaders are encouraging poor and marginalized people to accept the ‘‘allowances’’. People who are very enthusiastic about receiving "allowances" are forgetting the pain of unemployment. Many people do not want to understand this simple fact that "allowances" can’t be a substitute for employment. It is needless to say that people are sacrificing their self-respect and self-esteem while accepting "allowances’’. There is no point in blaming the common people, because they are helpless. Who is responsible for this helplessness of the poor and marginalized people, how to overcome this problem - the matter was explained long ago by the essayist Rabindranath Tagore in his famous essay "Lokhit". On the other hand famous fictionist Ramapada Chowdhuri has shown in his short story "Bharatvarsh" how poor and marginalized people are turning themselves into beggars by giving up their self-esteem and self-respect. This insult to the poor and marginalized people is an insult to the country itself, this subject matter has been highlighted in the discussion article. | |
