Dr. Munmun Dutta, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Haji A. K. Khan College, West Bengal, India
Rabindranath Tagore was one of the pioneers of the agitation that was created in the world of education in the context of the renaissance of the nineteenth century. According to Tagore, Education is a man-making process, it explores the innate power exists within the human. He defined education as the all-round development of human life. Education that will not only create clerical workers but also spiritual development. He thinks that the moral and spiritual education is more important than bookish knowledge. Education which will eliminate all forms of inequality in the society and establish equality, remove superstitions and provide social awareness. According to Rabindranath, the ideal environment for this type of education is “Tapavan education”. He felt that a curriculum should revolve organically around nature with classes held in the open air under the trees. Where students can develop their inner potential by learning in a natural environment. He wanted to make the education system life-oriented by developing the potential of the heart. He believed that a life-oriented education that will satisfy him as a creative.
