Tirthankar Chakraborty, Independent Researcher, Hailakandi, Assam, India.
Literary Realism is a significant literary movement that arose in the mid-nineteenth century. As in romanticism, the author’s personal emotions, feelings, joys or sentiments, fantasy, etc. appear; but in Literary Realism daily experience of life gains ultimate prominence. Criticism of life and society is expressed here and the writing language is sharp, incisive. Presently Sahitya Akademi Youth Awardee (2022) Poet Suman Patari is a famous name in Northeast India. Suman got this award for the Bengali poetry book ‘Likhe Kichu Hoy Na’. He expresses many aspects of his life in lucid language in poems. Lack of food and clothing, lack of medical treatment, father’s helplessness, pain of unemployment, vote politics etc. come up in his poems spontaneously. This poet does not hesitate at all to express his life experiences as it is in the world of poetry. Whether the young poet Suman Patari can be called a realist poet in terms of multiple characteristics of literary realism - this exploration, analysis and evaluation is the main focus of the article.
