Dr. Rintu Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Tripura University (Central University), Tripura, India
A subaltern is someone with a low ranking in a social, political or other hierarchy. It can also mean someone who has been marginalized or oppressed. The topic of our discussion is to focus on the self-establishment of subalterns in the novel named ‘Neel Mayurer Jouban’ by Selina Hossain. The main theme of this novel is to establish the regional language of the poets of Charyapada era. The writer has depicted the history of language movement and freedom of Bangladesh. The hero Kanhupada’s poetic creativity itself became the enemy of him. Besides, the oral language and social status of the subalterns turned into the reason of their sorrow. The writer has recreated the time of ‘Charyapada’ in this novel. The consciousness of language and nationalism of Kanhu made a protest against the emperor which was spreaded among the hopeless people of the society. This protest was not only the establishment of the dignity of language but it also became the struggle of selfestablishment of subaltern people. Our main focus of this research article is to highlight this aspect in ‘Neel Mayurer Jouban’ by Selina Hossain.
