The Changing Flow of Feminism from a Contemporary Perspective
Priyarani Chakraborty, Ph.D. Research Scholar, Department of Philosophy, University of Burdwan, West Bengal, India
With the rapid change in the world today, the change in the world of women is also amazing. The entire world is now acknowledging the equality of women and men, denying the importance of the difference between women and men in the economic, political and social spheres. Feminism does not believe in gender inequality. Now a days, no part of the society is beyond the discussion of feminism. Labour, sexuality, health, love, nutrition, religion, politics, entertainment, media, film, drama, etc. are all being considered from a feminist perspective. Opposing traditional male dominance in intellectual practice and challenging traditional values, feminism creates new ideas and values, and develops new theories and research methods. Feminism has made both men and women aware of gender inequality in society, the inferior position of women compared to men, the oppression and abuse of women, etc. Various differences between women in the first and second waves of feminism, such as class, power, state, educational aspects, were not highlighted. The third wave of feminism highlights this difference in women, and so far, educated middle-class white women in the West have served as spokeswomen for women all over the world, which in reality should not be the case. Because the problems of different types of women are different and the problems of working poor black women are ignored as a result. Thirdwave feminism is influenced by Postmodernism, Post-structuralism, and Postcolonialism. The two strands of feminism, post-structuralism and post-modernism, teach us that femininity, whether feminine, or masculine, is not an immutable concept. They can be constructed through language and its application. Feminism teaches women to identify with their own class, group, caste, race, power, etc., and this identity includes self-confidence, self-esteem.Today, feminism is equally important in both struggle and intellectual thought. If feminism can simultaneously bring all women under one roof in achieving their various demands and rights, and in parallel, by acknowledging their differences, try to provide various solutions and show the way to the movement, then in the coming days, feminism will be able to make the women of the whole world aware, show the direction in the struggle for rights, find the source of unequal distribution of power in the society. The purpose of the discussion of feminism in this article is that real empowerment is happening among ordinary women today, but if there is self-satisfaction, there should be no selfthe history of feminism, the various trends and waves, from the previously suppressed status of women to women's empowerment today.
