Satinath’s Dhorai Charit Manas: An In-Depth Observation of an Alternative Dimension of Reality
Dr. Nandita Roy, Associate Professor, Dept. of Bengali, Government Degree College, Dharmanagar, North Tripura, India
One of the most resplendent Bengali novelist who hails from the province of Bihar, Sathinath Bhaduri, was flowing by the reader’s excitement after writing Jagoree, had been subsided after publication of ‘Dhorai Charito Manos’, when it comes to portray marginalized character in a heroic demeanor. He has brought the duality of meaning of the word"Other"in his novel"Dhorai Charito Manas"where he has depicted how the mainstream readers found it difficult to accept such a rustic character being treated with such lionized way. It shows how people at that time were segregated in terms of 'they' and 'us' because the protagonist of the novel Dhorai was a limpid being who has a mix character shades that the Aristocraric readership didn't look it well as they considered such character meek and unworthy of such literary magnification. But yet Bhaduri with his brevity of language and a keenness to bring about a transformation in literary canon has made the character the most disputed character who has both the mix of heroic and mundane traits. Bhaduri with the characterization of Dhorai shows that he has the intent and will power to challenge the elite ruling class but he had to face many adversities from society that blocked his path from going ahead in his goal. In this regard it has to be said that Bahduri had broken the iconoclastic image of what literary heroes had once been among the elite class but Bhaduri tried to break this conventional notion of hero worship and rather put an ordinary character like Dhorai as a hero. In the case, one should call him unsung hero who probably had all the desired Attributes to be called a hero but just unlike Sri Rama has been shown as an indisputable hero here Dhorai has become a blurrer hero because the readership were used to read  only established writing. Madhusudan Dutta, in his epic MeghnadhBadh" tried to depict Indrajit as a forgotten champion but we all know that it doesn't matter how much exotic quality one possess, the world will remember only the victor. So, it's evident that, no matter what your purpose of fight is but if you are not holding any might then you would be erased like you never existed.
Dhorai's character shown us that it's hard to get readers who will celebrate such heroes because we have preinstalled notion of heroes  as a elite class personnel but when a rustic character like
Dhorai gets such limelight it's hard for the nobility to digest this.. Bhaduri has brought to light the most hotly debated conception of 'Other' where he has shown how an invisible yet stark reality demarcate line between those who hold and enjoy power and those who find themselves at the receiving end. Had Dhorai been an elite then today he might have get the same accolade as other stellar popular literary heroes have got.
