On Three Stories by Subimal Misra
Srinath Maity, Research Scholar, Department of Bengali, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, Birbhum, West Bengal, India
Subimal Mishra may not be very popular as a storyteller but he isn't quite obscure too. His anti-stories make us think, help us to broaden and refine the space of thought, to re-examine disposition. Breaking from the concept of traditional stories, he creates a unique style by himself. In this case, we are looking at three stories of Subimal Mishra.– ‘Haran Majhir Bidhaba Bou'er Mora ba Shonar Gandhimurti’, ‘Baganer Ghoranimer Gaache Dekhonchacha thakten’,‘Parijatak’. Faced with adverse reality, the characters in the story try to render an amazing grounding to their experiences. Repetition of certain sentences in the stories is intended to harp on the specific thoughts of the storyteller and make them clearer. Variation is levelled up to finer dimensions. This article strives to understand Mishra's penchant by analyzing these three selected stories closely and a few accompanying snippets from the same.
