The Syncretic Deities and Women of the Sundarbans

Sundarbans folk deity ideas have become predominant based on favorable or unfavorable environment for human survival. That is, people have become dependent on all these gods to live healthy and beautiful. Believed in all these worldly gods. Water jungle, various rivers of Sundarbans, canal bill, insects, moths, the sea, besides snakes, crocodiles, tigers, supernatural dangers, storms, floods, earthquakes, heavy rains, lack of rains, cholera, dysentery, spring etc. either people Banabibi or Narayani Devi is worshiped to collect wood wax honey from the forest. Their nests are usually along the river banks. On the banks of the river, you can see the undergrowth of Aswattha, Bel, Pakur, Shaora trees. People of both communities worship Banabibi and Narayani Devi. Because Narayani's vehicle is a lion and Banabibi's vehicle is a tiger. So these two goddesses protect the people here from the ferocious beasts of the Sundarbans. But the most surprising thing is that even living in such a hostile environment like the Sundarbans (i.e. where crocodiles attack tigers in the water), people still dream of survival. Various people have dreamed of survival by believing in God. In other words, to put it simply, people started worshiping all these folk gods to get rid of the hostile environment by Sundarban water jungle, tiger snake crocodile etc. But not only that people worshiped these gods to get rid of all these wild beasts or water jungles, people worshiped these gods to get rid of various diseases and diseases, for good wishes. Moreover, to get rid of the nuisance of ghosts or metaphysical or supernatural dangers, our people here believe that by worshiping all these gods and goddesses, you can get rid of the hostile environment. Liberation can also be obtained from various dangers.
The people of South Twenty-four Parganas district have resorted to these gods to get rid of various dangers like, fear of tigers while collecting honey in the forest, fear of poisonous snakes in the forest area, fear of crocodiles in the water etc. That is why all these gods and goddesses are not worshiped according to any religious rules. All these gods and goddesses are worshiped only to get rid of danger. But let's say one thing in this context, the worship of God and Goddess is not only done by people of Hindu religion. From this point of view, our district is independent from other districts. Because here we worship different gods and goddesses by people of both Hindu-Muslim communities. As a result, we can see a very beautiful image of communal harmony here. . In other words, a mixed culture can be observed in our folk society even in terms of religion. That is why an influence of mixed culture is noticed in our imagination of gods and goddesses. In this context, the names of deities like Banbibi, Olabibi, Barapir Saheb, Manikpir, Bamun Gazi etc. can be mentioned. Again, various songs and rhymes can be heard based on these folk deities. For example, Panchu Tagore's turn, Ban Bibi's turn, Baba Tagore's turn, Kanu Ray's song, Dakshin Ray's song, also Shiva's gajan, Ghentu songs are there.
