The Multidimensional Activities Establishing Northern Dominance over Southern Countries in the Post–Cold War Period: An Analytical Study in the Context of the Contemporary World Order Soumen Bhattacharya, State-Aided College Teacher, Department of Political Science, Panchmura Mahavidyalaya, Bankura, West Bengal, India
Southern countries have been backward in social, economic, political and cultural aspects due to being under colonial rule for a long time. After gaining independence, efforts to establish hegemony in new strategies under the umbrella of globalization can be seen in southern countries. Imitation of the European model of development was once seen as the wrong policy in the countries of the South. Northern states created demand for consumer goods in the South mainly to establish hegemony. A one-way hegemonic structure of dependency has been developed to establish hegemony in the countries of the South. Overpopulation pressure has also contributed to increased dependency. The stable infrastructure of the United Nations has had a negative impact on the countries of the South. The international media has played a significant role in establishing the hegemony of the Northern countries. These hegemonic states continue to exert influence over government power under new pretexts in the underdeveloped and developing countries of the third world. The liberal attitude and over-consumerism of the citizens of the South Asian countries created an opportunity for the dominant countries to establish dominance. The colonial model that South Asian countries have followed for their development has presented new challenges to South Asian countries. China's rise as a new power in Asia has caused concern in both South Asia and Europe. The permanent membership of the Security Council, the most important body of the United Nations, has remained the same since 1945 for the hegemonic powers to retain power. This passive attitude of the United Nations Security Council has greatly enhanced US hegemony in South Asia. Looking back to 1919, it can be seen that about 70% of the world population was under colonial rule at that time and most of the countries in South Asia were under British, French rule at that time. Gradually in 1966 AD the picture of this situation changed a lot and at this time it was observed that only 1% of the population was tied to subjugation. We will review from various aspects how the countries of South Asia are being exploited by the dominant countries of Europe and America from various aspects.
