The Idea of Harmony in Selected Short
Stories from Tripura Dr. Prasanta Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Bengali, Govt. Degree College, Dharmanagar, North Tripura, India
The mutual coexistence of Tripura's Janjati community and the Bengalishas been seen in Tripura since the royal era. As a result of a long period of coexistence, there has been a cultural exchange between people of different races. A gradual mixing of cultures took place. The trend of that mixed culture is still prevalent in this state. The food list, clothing, festivals etc. of the people of Tripura bear the testimony of that tradition. The history of harmony between the people of Tripura's Janjati community and the Bengalis dates back to the Rajnya period, but the Bengalis and Janjati fratricidal riots of June 1980 tarnished the glorious cultural heritage of Tripura. As a result the separatist movement had started. But on the other side of hatred in social life shines the light of harmony. After the Partition, Bengali refugees from the other side of Bengal settled in Tripura within a few days and they adopted the soil and people of Tripura. That harmony is depicted in the stories of various storytellers of Tripura. This article focuses on the artistic value of selected stories of Tripura mixed with harmony.
